Feast of Somerhulf Two hundred years after the first Humans were discovered by the Dwarves and Elves, the kingdoms of Kharagga-Kraah, Thanabor-Kraah, and Barbeleg went to war against the monster nation of Aazthkhanak. The Dwarves had chosen from among them the war chief Somerhulf Steelrender to lead the combined Dwarf armies, while the Elves were led by the battlemage Tomalan Camnar. Although the two were often in sharp disagreement on how the war should be waged, Tomalan often deferred to Somerhulf's greater experience in dealing with Aazthkhanak's brutal methods. The war ended after a bloody twenty year campaign that saw the allied Dwarves and Elves victorious. In achieving this victory, Tomalan was grievously wounded and had a curse laid upon him by the sorcerer king of Aazthkhanak. Taken from the fields by his apprentices and officers, Tomalan's role in the war came to an end. Somerhulf realized that without Tomalan's corps of battlemages, the total obliteration of Aazthkhanak would be far bloodier and costly than would be acceptable. He settled for beating the monster nation back to the Bloodwash River's tributaries Viggalis' Finger and the Bloody Cresent. Confined within the boundaries of the rivers, Somerhulf forced a compact forbidding Aazthkhanak from ever expanding its territory beyond them. To ensure that Aazthkhanak would abide by the compact, Somerhulf had his consciousness embedded in the double-edged great axe that he had carried throughout the war. The Feast of Somerhulf is held once a year in conjunction with the harvest season to commemorate this victory. During the Feast, Somerhulf is brought out on display and relates to all who will listen his account of the war. The Feast is also a time to publicly recognize the achievements of those in the Dwarf, Elf, and Human militaries who have demonstrated exemplary valor and skill. During the Feast, games of martial skill and similar competitions are held, with prizes provided by various patrons.
